The festive spirit of December

At the end of the year, we provide for an excellent atmosphere in the centre of Vrhnika. Throughout the entire month, the city adorned with magnificent holiday decorations will host numerous festive activities spanning from the end of November to the beginning of the new year.

The activities that bring the festive spirit of December to Vrhnika started years ago, when an ice rink was opened in Vrhnika’s recreation park. Skating is free of charge for all visitors. The primary schools of Vrhnika, which can use the facilities for their winter school activities, are among the numerous groups content with this arrangement. During the weekends, an ice-skating course for children also takes place.

In addition to ice skating, there are also cultural events and entertainment programmes that take place at the park. Of course, there is no festive spirit without fire performances, children’s choirs, and St Nicholas’s parade with his entourage. There is also a fair, where local artists and artisans present their work. Here you can purchase delicious goodies and Christmas presents for your loved ones. The programme continues with a visit from St Nicholas and a magical hike with torches to Sveta Trojica Hill. Of course, there is also a ski equipment fair, the Christmas market organised by Ivan Cankar Primary School, dance performances, children's performances, and concerts. The December activities in Vrhnika conclude with a New Year’s Eve celebration.
