    On the second weekend of June, Vrhnika becomes the vibrant venue of the Argonaut Festival—the largest festival in these parts.

    The Festival brings fun activities, social events, and laughter, as well as music, cuisine, and sports. With the promise of early summer in the air, the Festival invites visitors to gather at the opening ceremony under the stars, visit the Stara cesta Road to indulge in culinary offer, and to experience the music and colourful lights of the A Night in Vrhnika event. This is when the Argonauts return to Vrhnika with Jason and Medea and the famous Argo ship, which is also included in the coat of arms of the city.

    The Argonaut Festival celebrates the rich history of our town and attracts a multitude of people from all over the world. We will not reveal this year’s programme just yet, but we promise a multitude of cultural and sport events and entertainment. We will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the cheerful Argonaut get-together.

    THE ARGONAUT FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

    • Thursday: Opening ceremony

    Jason and the Argonauts undoubtedly had their long journey livened up with music, so we will loosen up with tunes reminiscent of the long summer days ahead. Accompanied by great music, we will set off the traditional fireworks.

     

    • Friday: Dionysus Friday

    On Dionysus Friday, the Stara cesta Road traditionally comes to life with Vrhnika associations and caterers offering foods and drinks, and a fair boasting a rich assortment of unique artisan products. The events will take place at several locations and will include workshops, dance performances and parties.

     

    • Saturday: Argotlon – take the challenge!

    Argotlon is not just a sports event. Here, people come together, play sports, have fun and discover the wonderful sights of Vrhnika in a slightly different way. A new route and obstacles will give sports aficionados a chance to engage in the funkiest run around.

     

    • Saturday: A Night in Vrhnika

    This year too, the hottest night of the year will bring a diversity of musical rhythms attracting an immense crowd of music fans. A Night in Vrhnika would not be possible without the many high-quality Slovene and foreign musicians.

     

    • Sunday: Argo-navt

    Visitors are in for a real family adventure on the Ljubljanica River. The event is best described as a mix of activities including military training, designing Argonaut equipment, canoeing, theatre performances, and other workshops and activities.

     

    • Sunday: The closing concert

    The festival will traditionally conclude with a summer evening concert, which will not leave anyone indifferent.
